My stay at Skotel Alpine Resort was wonderful! The cozy accommodations were perfect after a long day exploring the stunning Tongariro National Park. Staff made me feel truly welcomed, offering helpful tips on local trails and providing a delicious breakfast to start my day right.
Some facilities felt dated.

Breakfast was a treat with their takeaway Jimmy Dean sandwiches—perfect fuel for our hikes! Plus, my family loved the ample parking, making everything easy-peasy for our trip. The cabin had amazing views of Mount Ngauruhoe from the deck, which was the cherry on top!
A cheeky downside was the spa, sadly not usable before 3 PM, which could be a bummer after our hikes. Also, breakfast feels a bit pricey at $27, but we snagged ingredients to whip something up in the communal kitchen, so no biggie!

fully stocked kitchen, clean communal facilities, great access to outdoor activities
The walls are paper thin, making every sound from neighbors quite intrusive!!! The games area is musty and requires a major refresh. The spa is poorly designed without steps, making access difficult!!!

The views from the restaurant were breathtaking, and we enjoyed
the excellent bar food with friendly staff. The communal kitchen was well-equipped and convenient for meal preparation. However, I felt the room could use some updates to feel more cozy during long stays.

We had an awesome time at Skotel! The backpackers room was cozy and warm upon arrival, and the kitchen facilities were solid for our meals. Enjoyed the hot tub after hikes. Only downside was some messy neighbors. Will definitely be back for the great atmosphere!

I really thought I'd enjoy my stay, but the strong chemical smell in the hallway was unbearable and made me almost dizzy. The 'friendly' staff seemed almost annoyed to help, and to add insult to injury, I couldn't even get a room upgrade! I was so close to giving a good review but just couldn’t.

Breathtaking views and cozy shared spaces
I had a fantastic stay! The common lounge area had stunning views over the volcanoes, which made for a perfect spot to relax after hiking. Our room was compact but warm, and the shared kitchen was great for preparing meals. The communal bathrooms were kept well-maintained and clean throughout my visit. The only downside was that the room felt a bit cramped with three people, which could be an issue for longer stays.

Stunning location with direct access to trails made our stay memorable. The kitchen was well-equipped and the staff exuded friendliness, enhancing the atmosphere. The bar had a great wine selection, and hot sandwiches were a highlight of the menu. However, the room was quite small and might feel cramped during peak seasons, and the communal areas could benefit from more upkeep to ensure comfort.
